REVIEW | Rucy's Vanity Gleamy Whitening BB Cream in Oak

Before I knew about liquid foundations, I first encountered a BB cream. Back then, having glowing skin like what the Koreans have  is really popular. I like how BB creams can make my skin look really healthy but finding the right shade is quite a task since most that I have used are light for me.

Together with the lipstick I recently reviewed, I was sent this Rucy's Vanity Gleamy Whitening BB Cream. They have two shades available: #21 Natural (lighter) and #23 Oak (darker). I chose the latter just to be safe because I know Korean BB creams are really light based on those I have tried before.

The packaging is just a basic tube that makes the application hygienic and very easy. But what I like is the color of the tube. It looks feminine but with an edgy side.

You can see the list of ingredients on the box and tube itself.

For the expiry, you may refer on the bottom part of the tube where EXP is written. It is hard to read though.

Oak is the darker shade and the guide from the website is a bit confusing so I followed my gut feel. This one is on the thick side.

When blended, you can really see that this shade has gray tones to it.

The application went smoothly.  Although using a sponge gives a more natural finish, I love the coverage I get when I use my fingers. I can apply this using a brush, too.

The BB cream was able to even out my skin color and it brightened up my face. I'd say it gives medium coverage with one layer. I tried building up the coverage but I ended up not doing it again because I find it hard to layer.

The shade Oak is a bit too light for my skin tone (knowing it is their darkest). You can definitely see that my face looks whiter than my neck.

Here's how my face looks after setting it with powder and using bronzer to bring back color.

After more than 2 hours, before retouching powder, my face still looks pretty decent. I did not feel oily although I did sweat a lot! You can still see the bronzer and blush which is a good sign.

This is a photo taken with flash and since the shade is too light for me plus it has SPF 20, you can see white cast.

After 6 hours of wear, I can definitely tell that the BB cream faded especially on the sides of my nose. Bronzer has faded but my face still looked fresh. The photo above was taken after I retouched my powder and I am amazed! Powder touch-up wouldn't be a problem with this BB cream. I am still okay with how I looked after 6 hours.

What I like:

  • Cute and hygienic packaging.

  • Sealed upon purchase.

  • With list of ingredients and expiry date.

  • Has SPF20 PA+++.

  • Easy to blend with fingers or sponge.

  • Has a nice mild scent.

  • Evens out skin tone and can cover minor imperfections.

  • For something so affordable, longevity of 6 hours is enough (it even looked decent after that time).

  • Did not make me feel oily but I sweat a lot (I have combination type of skin).

  • Available locally.

What I don’t like:

  • Oak is still too light for me.

  • I had a hard time layering it for more coverage.

  • Though it is available locally, you can only get it through their website.

Overall rating: 4/5

I am disappointed with the shade selection, good thing I was able to make this work by using a bronzer or a darker shade of setting powder. But overall, I am still pleased with how the product worked.

I find that this is a good BB cream to use if you don't have too much imperfections and just want to even out skin color. Staying power is average but may not last as long when you have oily skin. If you are on a hunt for affordable BB cream and you have fair skin, this one is something that I can suggest for you to try out. For the morenas, you may want to skip this. Hopefully, they'll produce more shades in the future.
